Students of Namgyal Middle Boarding School, Swayambhu are expected to observe the following norms of manner and discipline from the time they join the school till the day they leave it.

  1. The school uniform must be clean and worn during class hours and on all formal functions. Class teachers will inspect the individual appearance of students daily at assembly. A student who is slovenly dressed or not in proper school uniform will be sent home.
  2. Students will assemble and get into lines at 9:15 a.m. in summer and 9:30 a.m. in winter. They will do so briskly and silently under the guidance of class teachers. Late comers will be liable to kneel before the assembly.
  3. Students will not enter the kitchen and bedrooms during recess and class hours without permission. He/She will be responsible if any loss or damage appears.
  4. Students are forbidden to buy eatables from the hawkers. If a child breaks this rule, his/her pocket money will be forfeited and a simple punishment will follow thereafter. Such punishment will include sweeping his/her classroom.
  5. Proper care must be taken of all school property. In case of damage, suitable fine or replacement will be borne by the student.
  6. Students running away from school, open misbehavior against any teacher/staff and other grave misconducts such as immorality and disobedience are always sufficient ground for immediate dismissal.
  7. Students must make every attempt to keep their classroom neat and tidy and free from litter. A student is responsible for the cleanliness of the area around his/her desk. Correction applied for the breach of this discipline is sweeping the compound or denying privileges.
  8. Students will keep short hair in decent style. Class teachers will maintain the proper length and style of the hair of their pupils.
  9. Students are not allowed to decorate with ornaments and jewelry, such as chains, rings, ear rings (boys) etc. They will be confiscated if found being worn in the school.
  10. Resident students will always put on decent casual dresses. A student who is shabbily dressed will be asked to prostrate during the prayer time.
  11. Students are not allowed to keep more than Rs. 100. They are also advised to mark their belongings, such as books and clothes, with personal identification. The school will not hold responsibility for any loss.
  12. Students are not allowed to visit and stay in any residential staff quarters without permission of the discipline in charge. They should always know that teachers are often busy planning lessons for the next day.
  13. Video-game players, walkman and other entertaining means are not allowed to be possessed by students in the school. Punishment for possessing such items will be confiscation of said items.
  14. All waste paper and litter must be deposited in the dust bins. Students should make a habit of picking up and depositing litter that may be lying around caring for the appearance of the school. Any articles found in the school premises should be taken to the Headmaster at once.
  15. Fighting, bullying, quarreling, chewing tobacco, drinking, stealing and gambling are strictly forbidden. A student who frequently breaks the school rules and whose conduct is harmful to other students may render him/her liable to expulsion.
  16. Students are expected to develop good neighboring and brotherly relation with the local people. They are also advised to be polite, obedient and use courteous language while having conversation with all.
  17. The school reserves itself the right to expel the student who fails in the same class for two consecutive years.
  18. Every student must speak in Tibetan within the school premises. A student who speaks in other than Tibetan language will be compelled to write a page of Tibetan hand writing.
  19. Boarders can go home on Second Fridays at 9:30 a.m. It is also compulsory to be in the school uniform when going home for holidays and returning to the school.


Disciplinary authorities

For minor breaches of discipline, disciplinary actions amounting to simple punishments can be taken by the discipline in charges and the teachers of the school. For major breaches of discipline, disciplinary actions amounting to expulsion can be taken only by the Principal. The Principal means the overall head of the school. The decision of the Principal shall be final and will not be appealed for change or excuse.
